If you don't like the lowercase letters on the key tops on your iOS software keyboard

When inputting Japanese with the Romaji keyboard, the work of inputting the reading in lowercase letters and converting it to Japanese is repeated. However, if you look around the keyboards of the computers around you, the key tops should be engraved with uppercase letters. Some keyboards may not, but uppercase letters are common for keyboards that use the QWERTY layout.

However, the iOS (software) Romaji keyboard uses lowercase notation. To be precise, iOS used to be in uppercase, but since iOS 9, lowercase is used as the initial setting. It's not "QWERTY" but "qwerty". When you press the SHIFT key or double-tap the SHIFT key to enable Caps Lock, it switches to uppercase, but in normal times it is displayed in lowercase.

This setting has the advantage that it is easy to see whether the characters to be entered are lowercase or uppercase, but it has the disadvantage that the keyboard display flickers each time the SHIFT key is pressed. I think there are many people who agree that this is the reason why they became uncomfortable after updating to iOS 9.

Assuming that there are such users, Apple has prepared a proper countermeasure. If you do not feel the advantage of lowercase notation and want to return to uppercase notation as in iOS 8 or earlier, open the screen in the order of "Settings" → "General" → "Accessibility" → "Keyboard" and "Show lowercase keys" Let's change the switch to off (green → white).

The key tops on your romaji keyboard should now be capitalized. Even if you press the SHIFT key or switch to Caps Lock, the key top does not change, so if you do not feel the advantage of lowercase notation, use this setting.

1 Open the screen in the order of "Settings" → "General" → "Accessibility" → "Keyboard"

2 When the "Show lowercase keys" switch is turned off (green → white), the key tops of the romaji keyboard become uppercase.
