One day, Square Enix held a trial event for the media. At this trial session, we were able to try out eight of the new titles of the company's attention. Among them are the titles announced at "Tokyo Game Show 2021". Check here for new titles announced at Square Enix at Tokyo Game Show 2021.
In this article, Ichiemon and Zenon from the ASCII editorial department will share their impressions of eight notable new titles.
First, let's take a look at our impressions of "Act Raiser Renaissance," which is on sale from September 24th. This work is a remake version of the same work that appeared on the Super Nintendo, and is on sale on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PC (Steam), iOS, and Android.
The main character of this work is a "god" who descends on a continent where monsters are infested, and the purpose is to guide humankind and develop civilization, as well as subdue the monsters that pose a threat. The subjugation of monsters is a side-scrolling action (hereinafter referred to as the action part), and the development of civilization is a simulation of how to look down (hereinafter referred to as the development part).
The protagonist descends to a continent infested with demons as a "God". The purpose is to lead the lost people and develop civilization while subjugating monsters.
Build a civilization with the advice of a foul-mouthed angel
Without losing the fun of the original version, many new elements that modern gamers can enjoy are included. For example, in the action part, add an attack motion for the playable character. In addition to attacking up and down, you can also dodge by backstepping, and the impression is that the movement has become more flexible than the original version. Of course, there are difficulty settings, so don't worry.
An action part with nostalgia. Defeat the enemies along the way, and finally defeat the boss waiting for you to clear the stage.
In addition to up and down attacks, back steps are also added. I thought that the addition of evasive motions made the battle a little easier, but when I actually played it, the difficulty remained the same as the original (don't worry, you can set the difficulty level).
I also found the renewed development part interesting. The simulation element of leading the people to build a civilization on a hairless land is still alive, but as a new element, a tower defense has been added to stop the monsters that try to invade the temple. Of course, it's fun to watch the development of civilization, and I often get so absorbed in it that I forget the action parts. Should I say the best time thief?
Development part
Set up forts and fences on the monster's movement route, and use "miracles" and "units" to stop the invasion.
Train the units you meet at the event
I have played the original version of this work on the Wii's "Virtual Console". It wasn't the Super Nintendo generation, but the action parts and development parts were all packed with fun that pierced the hearts of gamers. I was a college student when I played it, and it was so much fun that I stayed up all night.
When I actually played the remake version of this work, I remembered the nostalgia of those days and felt the freshness of playing a new title. Nostalgic yet new. My heart flared up, thinking that it was time to get hooked on Actraiser again.

Next is "Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy". This work is a third-person action adventure created by Eidos-Montréal, a group studio, and a completely new original story is drawn. It will be released on October 26, 2021 (October 27 for the PC version) on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
Operate the leader Star Lord who leads the Guardians of the Galaxy and capture the mission while giving instructions to the members Rocket, Groot, Drax, and Gamora. Each member has their own unique abilities, and use them to overcome difficulties depending on the situation. The battle was quite interesting, and the exhilarating feeling when the cooperation was decided was exceptional.
You can experience a completely original story based on Marvel Comics' Guardians of the Galaxy, which has also been made into a movie.
As Star-Lord, overcoming difficulties while giving instructions to four members who are too uneven. Mysteries and battles often occur, but the strength of all members is indispensable.
The biggest attraction is that you can experience the world of Guardians of the Galaxy in the game. It is full of conversations between friends, Western music from the 80's, and gags. Let's rock and roll!
